The main work of SANJH Pakistan is on Climate change and Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR). SANJH Pakistan has worked on this thematic area since the beginning of SANJH. The strategic goal of SANJH Pakistan for this thematic area is as follows.

Strategic Goal 01 To build capacity of 30000 community people on climate change, disaster risk reduction, preparedness and self-resilient against natural disaster with the support of national and international donors.

SANJH Pakistan has completed many projects on Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) and Climate change. The detail is as follows.

Flood 2022

SANJH Pakistan team has visited flood affected areas of Punjab and Sindh. SANJH Pakistan has prepared situation report for need of flood affected areas. SANJH Pakistan has distributed food items and non-food items.

1. Relief package for Flood affected communities of flood 2022

SANJH Pakistan has distributed food items and non-food items in Union Council Bindi and Union Council Pardan Tehsil Taunsa District D.G. Khan. Similarly, SANJH Pakistan has also distributed food items and non-food items in Fazil Pur District Rajan Pur. SANJH Pakistan has distributed food items and non-food to 200 families.

2. Campaign for Prevention of Dengue (Workshop on Dengue Precautionary Measures)

SANJH has successfully conducted a workshop on dengue precautionary measures of 25 participants. In this training the participants were capacitated on prevention of dengue fever and precautionary measures about dengue.

3. Empowered and resilient community against natural disaster (2018 to 2019) Funded by USAID

SANJH Pakistan has successfully completed a project “Empowered Resilient Community against Natural Disaster supported by USAID. SANJH formed 28 Community Resilient Committees (CRC). SANJH has built capacity of CRCs’ in Community-Based Disaster Risk Management (CBDRM). SANJH has provided Emergency response toolkit to each CRC and Mock drill. SANJH had prepared Integrated Community Resilience Plans (ICRP) in 14 villages with participation of community.

Flood 2014

SANJH Pakistan had responded in flood 2014 in Muzaffargarh. The detail is as follows.

4. Restoration of Water Facilities after flood 2014 supported by Hands/DFID

To provide some support to flood affected people of union council Murad Abad Tehsil Muzaffargarh in shape of water facilities and water sanitation SANJH implemented a project (Flood Emergency Response 2014) with the support and funding of HANDS /DFID. SANJH has installed the 20 hand pumps in the flood affected areas in this project

5. Awareness about Precautionary measures about Prevention of Disasters in Collaboration with Social Welfare department.

SANJH had launched awareness raising campaign for precautionary measures about disasters. SANJH had given awareness to communities of Tehsil Muzaffargarh about prevention of flood during flood 2014 with collaboration of Social welfare department.

Nature and climate change is one of the thematic areas of the SANJN Pakistan. SANJH Pakistan has worked on this thematic area since the beginning. SANJH has conduct many awareness activities and also implemented few projects with different international donors.

Prevention of drug abuse through inter active theater (Youth Initiative) – IOM/USAID

SANJH has successfully completed a project of youth initiative donated by IOM/USAID. The name of project was “Prevention of Drug Abuse through Inter active Theater.” The objective of Project is “To give awareness to youth about prevention of drug abuse through interactive theater plays.” SANJH is running this project in 5 union councils (Mehmood Kot, Kashif Abad, Thatta Gurmani, Sinawan, Shadi Khan Monda) of district Muzaffargarh.

Empowered and resilient community against natural disaster

In flood 2010 SANJH has worked with IOM, UNICEF, UN-Habitat CESVE, and UN-OCHA. Till now we have worked with support of different funding partners in the field of education, Nature, DRR, vocational trainings, Shelter WASH, social mobilization, human rights, CVE and peace with national and international donors like UNHABITAT, USAID, UN-OCHA, UNICEF, DAI, CREATIVE Associates, CYAAD Action Aid IRC, TVO, DCHD, Oxfam, Alif Ailaan, IOM and Punjab Education Foundation (PEF).
After the flood 2010 in district Muzaffargarh, SANJH Pakistan has worked for the rescue, relief and rehabilitation of local communities.

Rescue

SANJH had worked for the rescue of the local communities in flood 2010 in district Muzaffargarh. SANJH Pakistan had arranged four tractor trolleys and a boat to pick people from flood affected area to safe places. Almost 200 people were shifted to safe places with the support of arrange equipment and facilitation of the local population. 41 people are rescued from water during this activity.

Relief

SANJH Pakistan has worked for the early relief for the flood effected people of Muzaffargarh, the IOM has provided funds of this relief initiative, under this grant SANJH Pakistan has done the following activities.

  • SANJH distributed cooked food to flood affected people for fist three days with its own resources. About 300 people are given cooked food.
  • SANJH arranged a camp city with help of Mobilink Company, where 512 people are living.
  • SANJH distributed food and cloth containing a bag of flour, sugar, salt, pepper, ghee, dall, tea, rice and a piece of 4-meter cloth. Food is distributed to 261 families.

SANJH distributed soaps to 504 families with help of UNICEF.

Rehabilitation

SANJH has Successfully Completed 1180 Shelters in early recovery of flood 2010 in District Muzaffargarh with the Donation of International Organization for Migration (IOM)

Rehabilitation Project with UN Habitat

SANJH has successfully completed following project of shelter, infrastructure and wash related projects with the support of UN-Habitat in Village Khojaywala U.C. Sheikh Ummar and village Gadi Wala U.C. Kashif Abad District Muzaffargarh.
SANJH Pakistan has constructed 152 shelters for the one hundred fifty-two families in these particular union councils of Muzaffargarh.

Community Restoration Project (CRP)

SANJH has Successfully Completed five gravel roads in CRP in five villages of district Muzaffargarh with donation of IOM. In This Project SANJH have Constructed gravel roads in five villages that have facilitated the 790 families of the respective villages.

Construction of latrines funded by TVO

SANJH has successfully constructed 300 Latrines in Mouza Perhar Sharqi and MozaTalai Chandrar Tehsil Kot Addu District Muzaffargarh with Donation of National Donor “Trust for Voluntary Organization (TVO)” Funding in 2005-2006.
